#McCann: Cadaver Dog Murder Trial Of Suzanne Pilley - No Body - No Forensic!
David Gilroy moved in with the book keeper when his wife learned of the affair, but later returned to his family.
The man accused of murdering Suzanne Pilley admitted to police he had cheated on his wife with the missing book keeper.
David Gilroy told police that he misled his wife about his relationship with Ms Pilley, 38, when he spoke to officers two days after she disappeared.
The 49-year-old made the admission during an 11-hour interview with police on May 6, 2010, the High Court in Edinburgh heard on Thursday.
Gilroy told police sergeant Paul Grainger that he had told his staff nurse wife that he was working when he was actually seeing Ms Pilley.
His wife later found out about the relationship and had felt "betrayed", Gilroy told police. He said the discovery prompted him to move in for a time with Ms Pilley, but their relationship ended and he returned to his family, the court heard.
Gilroy is accused of murdering Ms Pilley at Thistle Street in Edinburgh, or at another location in Scotland, on May 4, 2010.
During the ninth-day of trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, Mr Grainger said he had interviewed Gilroy at Corstorphine police station two days after the book keeper went missing.
Gilroy told the officer that his relationship with Ms Pilley started after he did some odd jobs around her flat in the city's Whitson area.
She had told him that she had been abused in a previous relationship and had met her soulmate during a trip to Morocco but had ended that relationship to return to Scotland.
Ms Pilley also allegedly told Mr Gilroy that she was engaged to another man in Edinburgh, but that relationship had ended because the man had a "major cocaine problem".
Mr Gilroy also told police that Ms Pilley had told him that she had a "termination" when she was younger but now wanted to have children.
Sergeant Grainger told the court he noticed Mr Gilroy had a number of injuries during the interview.
He said: "I noticed a scar on his forehead under his hairline. There may have been some sort of scratch to his neck under his chin.
"He was quite happy to come and assist us. There was nothing unusual or different about him."
Gilroy, of Silverknowes, Edinburgh, denies a total of five charges which allege he committed a series of criminal acts across Scotland between August 2009 and June 2010.
The trial before Lord Bracadale continues.

THESE must surely be the most heartbreaking holiday pictures you will ever see.
Giggling with excitement, little Madeleine McCann climbs the steps of a plane bound for Portugal.
She clutches a brand new Barbie rucksack containing her favourite Cuddle Cat soft toy ? all set for a week of fun.
But five days later, on May 3, someone snatched Maddie, four, from her bed in the family’s resort apartment. Twenty-six days later, there is still no sign of her.
The nine-second mobile phone clip shows Maddie, in dark pink trousers and a light pink top, holding hands with another little girl.
In her haste to get aboard the holiday jet, she rushes up the first three steps and slips, grazing her shin. But brave Maddie cries for only a few seconds ? too thrilled to be upset for long. The clip is one of two released yesterday by her parents Gerry and Kate, both 38.
Both were taken by a friend. The other shows Maddie sitting on the shuttle bus at Faro airport, happily swinging her legs as she waits for the short drive to their holiday destination, Praia da Luz.

Emotional Gerry, from Rothley, Leics, clutched Maddie’s pink rucksack yesterday as he said: “She was dead excited about going away.
“She refused to get upset about hurting herself. She started crying but stopped almost immediately. It looked really sore, something that usually would cause ten minutes of crying rather than ten seconds. She was really brave.”

Today Kate and Gerry kissed goodbye to their two-year-old twins as they left Portugal for the first time together since their Maddie disappeared.
The McCanns are flying to Rome to prepare for a meeting with the Pope tomorrow.
They decided twins Sean and Amelie were too young to travel and left them in the care of relatives for the 24 hours they are away.
The couple hugged and kissed the toddlers, Mrs McCann wearing green and yellow ribbons in her hair. They waved goodbye and promised to be back tomorrow, leaving them with Mr McCann’s sister Trish Cameron.
The couple were chauffeur-driven in a Mercedes and taken to retail tycoon Sir Philip Green’s private jet, which was put at their disposal.
The Top Shop boss offered them his 12-seater Gulfstream jet after hearing about Madeleine’s abduction.
Mr and Mrs McCann will fly from the VIP terminal near Faro airport in the Algarve to Rome’s Ciampino airport.
Sir Philip flew to London this morning and the crew flew on to Portugal for the two-day trip.
The McCanns will be met by the British ambassador to the Holy See Francis Campbell and stay at the British residency in Rome.
Tomorrow morning they will attend a general audience in St Peter’s Square and will be introduced to Pope Benedict XVI at the end of the session.
Mrs McCann wants to give the Pope a photograph of her daughter and the Pontiff is understood to be happy to accept such a gift.
It emerged yesterday that British mobile phone experts have been drafted in ? in a bid to lead cops to Maddie.
And Portuguese police want to speak to a British yachtsman who was in email contact with prime suspect Robert Murat.
A mobile can be tracked from a trail of silent signals it sends to radio masts ? and its position pinpointed within feet.

The British sailor police seek had a yacht moored at Lagos marina in Portugal for several years but is now understood to have left the area. #McCann: Suzanne Pilley - Murder Trial Told Of Argyll Visit
The Suzanne Pilley murder trial has heard about police interviews with the accused the day after Ms Pilley disappeared in Edinburgh.The High Court in Edinburgh heard David Gilroy was contacted in Argyll and returned to the capital to give a statement to police.
Mr Gilroy is accused of killing Ms Pilley either in Edinburgh or elsewhere in Scotland in May 2010.
He denies all the charges against him. Ms Pilley's body has never been found.
PC Grant said he had gone to her employers, IML, in Thistle Street and spoke to colleagues, who told him she had been in a relationship with Mr Gilroy.
He was given Mr Gilroy's mobile phone number and spoke to him after 17:00.
'Significant witness'
PC Grant said Mr Gilroy, who worked for the same firm, told him he was in Lochgilphead, where IML were involved in the construction of a building.
He also said he had last seen Ms Pilley on Monday 3 May, when he agreed to end his relationship with her.
The police officer told prosecution lawyer advocate depute Alex Prentice QC that he wanted to interview Mr Gilroy as soon as he returned to Edinburgh.
Mr Gilroy arrived at Corstorphine police station at 23:40 and was interviewed overnight. The statement given by Mr Gilroy ran to 59 pages.
Hotel 'row'
Earlier, the court heard about an argument between the accused and Ms Pilley in a hotel room the year before she disappeared.
Businessman Steven Kavagnah said the alleged argument with Mr Gilroy happened during a corporate function at Crieff Hydro in October 2009.
Mr Kavagnah told Mr Prentice that the confrontation took place as he was using the bathroom in Ms Pilley's room.

He said that after leaving the bathroom, Mr Gilroy asked him what he was doing in Suzanne's room.
The businessman said: "There were raised voices.

Mr Gilroy denies murder and four other charges which allege he committed a series of criminal acts across Scotland between August 2009 to June 2010.
Mr Kavanagh said he came into contact with Ms Pilley at the function at Crieff Hydro and they had a number of conversations on the night.
He said Ms Pilley had told him that she had been in a relationship with Mr Gilroy but had broken up with him some time before the evening in question.
Door locked
Mr Kavanagh then told Mr Prentice that at the end of the evening Ms Pilley approached him and said the lock to her door was not working.
Mr Kavanagh said that he waited with the book keeper while hotel staff forced the door open.
He then said that he went to use the toilet in Ms Pilley's room as he was "desperate".
As he was using the bathroom, Mr Kavanagh said he could hear "raised voices" coming from the main room.
When he left the bathroom, Mr Kavanagh said he saw Mr Gilroy who was "clearly unhappy."
Mr Kavanagh added: "He said something like 'what are you doing in my girlfriend's room'. He wasn't happy. He was shouting."Mr Kavanagh then said Ms Pilley managed to calm Mr Gilroy down and the pair spoke to each other in the hotel's reception area.
After the chat, Mr Kavanagh said Ms Pilley appeared to be "okay."

Mr Peck replied: "Probably not as much as I thought he might bearing in mind the explanation he had given me about their relationship."
He told the court that at a second meeting five weeks later Mr Gilroy had seemed "different" and "combative", but not towards him.
He said the accused had told him 12 years of military training had helped him deal with the past few "difficult weeks".
Mr Gilroy denies fives charges including murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
Ms Pilley was captured by CCTV cameras on buses, on the street and in a supermarket on the morning of 4 May 2010, the date she disappeared.
Ms Pilley was travelling to her city centre workplace but her colleagues never saw her arrive.

A DOG trained to look for human bodies found areas of "specific interest" in the building where missing bookkeeper Suzanne Pilley worked, a court has been told.
Mark Heron, senior scene examiner with the Scottish Police Services Authority, told jurors the dog was interested in the parking bays in the garage of Infrastructure Management where the missing 38-year-old worked.
He was giving evidence at the High Court in Edinburgh in the trial of David Gilroy who is accused of murdering Ms Pilley.
The 49-year-old denies murdering her on May 4 2010 in Edinburgh, or elsewhere, hiding her body and driving away with it in the boot of a car.

The court heard how one of the two dogs showed interest in the boot of a silver Vauxhall Vectra car which was identified as belonging to the accused.
Advocate depute Alex Prentice showed the jury a computer-generated image of the office building in Thistle Street, which Mr Heron said he first examined on May 9, 2010.
Asked who he was with when the scene was examined, the witness told the court he was with, among others, two dog handlers and two "cadaver dogs".
Mr Heron, 47, said one of the dogs "made its way around the garage sniffing". He added: "I can't remember if it sat down or pawed at three specific areas. We decided to chalk these specific areas for further examination."
Two of the areas were in parking bays and the other was around a door, jurors heard.
During cross-examination, defence QC Jack Davidson put it to Mr Heron that there was no forensic link from the Thistle Street building to the accused.
Mr Davidson asked the witness about the scientific methods used to examine the garage, basement and stair area of the office building.
Jurors heard how Mr Heron had been to the address "as many as 10 or 15" times. Mr Davidson asked him if an "extensive and meticulous" inquiry had been undertaken and the witness agreed that it had.
He then asked: "There was no forensic link from examination of items in the staircase, basement and the garage to Mr Gilroy in relation to this inquiry?"
Mr Heron replied: "Not as far as I am aware."
The jury was shown photos of Gilroy's car impounded at a garage used by police for examining vehicles, and was told that Mr Heron attended the car on May 9, 2010.
Mr Prentice asked: "When you opened the boot of the car can you tell us what you experienced?"
The witness replied: "I could smell either a cleaning fluid or air freshener, a fresh, clean fragrance, when I opened the boot."
Asked what happened after that, he said: "The dog went into the boot and showed some interest in the boot."
"What is it you saw?" asked Mr Prentice.
Mr Heron replied: "My observation was that at the top-right corner and the left-front corner the dog paused and showed interest in these areas."
Asked what the dog did then, Mr Heron said: "Just paid particular attention, sniffing at that particular area."
Mr Davidson asked the witness why the smell was not recorded when the car came into police custody days earlier.
Mr Heron replied: "I am 100% certain I could smell it."
Yesterday the jury retraced Ms Pilley's last known movements. They followed the route she took to work on May 4, 2010, the day she disappeared.
They were taken through the building, including Ms Pilley's office and the basement garage.
Gilroy, of Edinburgh, denies all charges against him.
The trial continues tomorrow and is expected to run for several weeks.

A DOG trained to look for human bodies found areas of "specific interest" in the building where missing bookkeeper Suzanne Pilley worked, a court has been told.
Mark Heron, senior scene examiner with the Scottish Police Services Authority, told jurors the dog was interested in the parking bays in the garage of Infrastructure Management where the missing 38-year-old worked.
He was giving evidence at the High Court in Edinburgh in the trial of David Gilroy who is accused of murdering Ms Pilley.
The 49-year-old denies murdering her on May 4 2010 in Edinburgh, or elsewhere, hiding her body and driving away with it in the boot of a car.
