David's wife, Fiona Payne, said to police in her rogatory interview:
"Because he was saying how angelic they all looked and he said to Kate when we all sat down at the Tapas table as well and he was sort of joking how they looked like perfect children, because they were all sat there, all clean in their pyjamas, having a story"
Mrs Payne recalls that when David 'popped in' on Kate, the 3 children were already in their pyjamas and being read a story (by Kate as Gerry was the tennis courts).
But Kate McCann disputes this version of events as she says in her new book:
"Every other evening I'd waited until the children were asleep before showering, but as we were ahead of schedule....I thought I'd take advantage of these quiet few minutes....at around 6.40 as I was drying myself off, there was a knock on the patio doors and I heard David's voice calling me. Swiftly wrapping my towel around me, I stepped into the sitting room.
David had popped his head round the patio door, looking for me.The others had met up with Gerry at the tennis courts and he'd mentioned that we were thinking of bringing the kids to the play area. Dave had nipped up to see if he could give me a hand taking them down.....I decided they were probably past the stage of needing any more activity, so he went back to the tennis while I quickly dressed and sat down on the couch with the children.'"
Thus, according to Kate McCann, she was drying herself after the shower and had to wrap a towel around herself to go see David who was calling on her.
Yet, David Payne's wife, on recalling this incident (which David told to her BTW) says David called in on Kate McCann when the kids were all sat being read a story.

How can Kate McCann claim that when David 'called in' on her, she was just drying herself from the shower and thus NOT reading the kids a story (as she was just out the shower) but yet Fiona Payne says that when her hubby called in on Kate, the kids were being read a story?
To further complicate matters, Kate McCann has ANOTHER VERSION of events and is noted in her September 6th,2007 witness testimony by the PJ:
"....At the apartment they both bathed the children, and close to 6:00 p.m. Gerry went to the tennis courts...After the children’s bath, already alone, she put pyjamas and nappies on the twins, and gave them each a glass of milk and biscuits. Before bathing the children and because it was early, they had thought of taking them to the recreation area, but then decided against this because of tiredness.""
"They both bathed the children" with "they both" meaning her and Gerry -- that's not mentioned in her book.Why the discrepency?

Are we to believe that Gerry forgot that his kids were too tired to go to play area less than 40 minutes after he left to go play tennis? A decision Kate claimed Gerry jointly made with her before he went to play tennis
